Porch Swing Submission Guidelines

Writing is often a flower that never gets to blossom. The business of writing is about making money, not expressing ideas. Certainly there are proven methods that sell the written word, but these are governed by static formulas and often exclude the writer who truly has something to share but doesn't have the motivation to write according to current trend.

The irony is, people who love to read are far more open to new ideas, provided they are well-said, than what is chosen and printed for them to read. This is a great frustration to many, both reader and writer. Thus I offer a place, small as it is, but at least it is an open door for those who stumble in here, to share their vision, free from the spectre of "will this sell?".

Will this lead to something else? Let's not kid ourselves, probably not. Regardless, this is not the reason for this haven. It exists only to provide a home for words that might never otherwise be read.

Guidelines:

As of now, I am prepared to publish non-fiction essays of no more than 2000 words (a fiction catagory will be added later) I am on a Mac and I can accept manuscripts composed on MicrosoftWord.

You can Email me with your suggestion and then, once approved, send by attached file via email.

Any topic, in keeping within the dubious boundaries of "good taste" is acceptable. I reserve the right to edit. Period. If I feel revision would make it read better, I will give the author the opportunity to rewrite or withdraw.

Note: This is not Writing 101. It is not my intention to teach anyone how to write. Nor am I jaded and hard to please, so if I feel major revisions are necessary, it is probably because the writer needs to rethink the whole piece as anyone would. It is only fair to ask that you spell-check your work. It is also a good rule of thumb to "sleep on it". Professionals never submit first drafts.
