Small One, The Brave

Small One is a blankie that keeps

Hayes warm and safe.

Hayes loves Small One.

Every night, Small One cuddles

up under Hayes'chin until he knows

Hayes is fast asleep.

Then, Small One slips off to make

it's evening rounds scaring away

the shadow monsters.

First, Small One checks under the bed.

Nope, no shadow monsters here.

Next, Small One peeks cautiously

into the deep,dark closet.

Whew! No shadow monsters here.

Then Small One inches down

the long hallway.

Thunk!

Suddenly there is a noise.

Uh, oh, must be a shadow monster.

Small One lays low and very still.

Thunk! Bump!

There it is again.

Clunk! The noise seems closer.

Small One shivers but knows

what must be done.

In a fuzzy fury Small One

pounces on the shadow monster

and wrestles it until it flees.

Exhausted, but victorious,

Small One slowly returns

to the still sleeping Hayes.

Once again, having made the

night safe and sound, Small One snuggles

back into bed with Hayes to dream

sweet blankie dreams.
