What
is a floorcloth?
Floor
cloths were hot decorating items in the early days of colonial
America. With no Walmart's available back then, our resourceful
feminine ancestors used old canvas sails to cut, sew and paint
floor coverings to brighten up their dismal surroundings. Leave
it to women to find a way to make home, even in the wilderness.
Today, the revival of the artform comes just as we have begun
to discard our wall to wall carpeting and begun to use wood again
under our kitchen tables and in our family rooms.
The
uniqueness of the painted floorcloth is that, not only does it
protect the surface under it, it livens up the room it graces.
And because the size, shape, design and colors of the cloth is
entirely up to the owner and created by the designer, it is not
only functional, it becomes a one-of-a-kind work of art.

My
floorcloths are created exclusively for each individual client.
Some of the applications for a floorcloth are: under the kitchen
table, or long runners for narrow halls. Under the coffee table
in the family room to make a focal point. A cheerful spot in front
of the kitchen sink. In front of a hearth.
How
about under the table and chairs on the screened porch?

Care
of Floorcloths
Vacuum
or sweep as you would any wood floor (no beater bar) I use an
electric broom. Then damp mop with a sponge and clear water. Spots
come up easily with a little gentle sponging. A floorcloth is
durable and will last many years with prudent care.

Pricing
$10
per square foot includes designing, painting, a minimum of seven
coats of polyurethane, and shipping. Upon acceptance of drawing,
the client will pay 50% with the balance due on delivery. Depending
on the complexity of the design, a floorcloth can typically be
completed and ready to ship in less than a month.
Sizes
Since
I have a small shop, the largest floorcloth I am able to create
at this time is 8'X 6'. The photo at the top is an average size
8'X 6'and will fit nicely under a table with six chairs.
